Now that rumors of NFC finally coming to the iPhone are widely circulating.. it got me to thinking...

How do you think Apple will use NFC?

The obvious one is mobile payments. I'm confident Apple will have a complete ecosystem that is private and secure. Mobile payments (iWallet?) will be far more practical than they have ever been.

However, this article got me wondering what else Apple might have in store. NFC is useful for far more than just payments. Combined with Bluetooth and iBeacon it appears we may have some interesting things headed our way.

Bluetooth pairing?
File sharing?
HomeKit?
Person to person payments?
Check-ins? (Yelp, 4square, college classes)
Airline checkins?
Digital business cards?

Curious to see what everyone thinks.

I know of many large retail companies that replaced their pin pads to be able to accept mobile payments and after a few years of trying that out and having it fail they have gone back to regular pin pads.

All of these are better reasons to have NFC and something I can see myself supporting, I never understood mobile payments and why everyone seems so focused on only that.

In a few weeks I'll be going to a concert and this venue started doing digital tickets only, so now my ticket is on my Passbook app (with QR code) and even though I much rather have a printed ticket, I can see other venues doing this and having NFC check in.

Good question OP. I have no problem paying for things with my CC right now so I'm intrigued in how Apple is going to get me to use NFC.

I'm sure Verizon will disable the payment system like they did with Google Wallet, so I won't look forward to that.

But I would like "iTags" (NFC tags).

Bluetooth pairing doesn't need NFC.
File sharing is useful and I've been doing it with both Android and Windows Phone.
Person to person payments? Possible, but paying via the cloud with Google Wallet or Paypal is easier.
Airline check ins: NFC is not used or needed. QR codes are generated and used by most airlines already.

NFC is best utilized for mobile payments, train/subway passes, vending machine use, monitoring security roving patrols, etc. Add in ibeacon and passbook for retail and I believe Apple has a potential win with its NFC/mobile payment ecosystem.

At the very least, I hope retailers start using paypass more now for WP and Android users.
