After installing Yosemite ... I noticed a little gear/sprocket in the app menu bar that blinks in and out ... does not spin ... and shifts positions in and out with other apps in its close by vicinity ... very annoying. I tracked it down to a third party app ... Time Back Up Scheduler ... an app that basically hijacks the time capsule so you can schedule backup other than the mandatory hourly backups.
