Welcome to the contributor's guide to AppleKeynotes.com.

AppleKeynotes.com aims to be the best website for finding and downloading Apple Keynotes in the world. To achieve this, we need your help, and your Apple video clips.

If you have a few Apple Keynotes, a bit of spare time to upload, and a generous soul, read on. :)

There are a few steps you need to follow to get uploading quickly. :)

1. Create the file. We would like all video clips to be posted in .zip format, so that when a user clicks on the file, it doesn't attempt to stream - it simply downloads. We think thats what most users will want.

Luckily, it is very easy to create a .zip in Mac OS X. Simply locate the file you wish to upload, right click on it, and select "Create Archive Of "[file name]"". OS X will create a .zip in the same location as the file was originally in. Thats all you have to do.

2. Download an ftp client, or use one you already have. Try CyberDuck (thanks for user input) as a freeware client if you don't already have one.

Find where you insert new details, and do as follows..

Server: applekeynotes.com
Username: macrumors
Password: PM ME
Location: /keynotes

3. In the FTP client, you need to find the right place to upload your keynotes. There may be a folder called "..." initally. Eneter this. Then enter the folder applekeynotes. Then enter the folder Keynotes. This is where we want the keynotes to be kept.

4. Register for AppleKeynotes.com WordPress here.

5. Log in to AppleKeynotes.com here.

6. Go to "New Post". Title your Keynote, select the area you want to save it into (category), and type up a short summary. Then locate the file you have upload, which should have been uploaded here, and include a link to the download in your post, preferably using the HTML - use the tags <a href="your link">Text to describe your link</a>. If you don't understand this, don't worry - an administrator will fix it for your as soon as possible.

7. Reflect in your own goodness - you are great - thanks!

These steps are brief, and I will add more detail, and screenshots, asap. Thanks all.

Note 9/2/06 - the WordPress theme appears to be slightly messed up, I am working to get a better one in. Thanks.

Or incase any of you are lazy, you can simply upload your file and one of the admins will create the post for you. I know I'll be more than happy to do it for anyone who doesn't want to take the time to create the post them selfs.

Yupp, me too.

Sorry about the FTP, we're working on it.

May I suggest creating a subdomain (media.applekeynotes.com) and a separate FTP account for the subdomain to accomplish the task of only letting people have access to the media folder and nothing else? If you need help, PM/IM me.

I'll let Larry know about this (he hosts us), and see if its possible to do. I don't have an account to mess around with settings. Thanks for the advice. :)

cyberduck (freeware) is my favorite FTP program for the mac

anyway, thank you for doing all this work for us :D

I also recomend Cyberduck. Very easy to use and a good mac style interface. I've been using it ever since I switched to a Mac.

XIII....you rock...great work

This is the great thing about using Macs (although it works with PCs) it is the community and support etc, just great.

Thanks for the kind words. :) From the already uploaded Keynotes, I take it the ftp is working? Coolio. :)

Can I extend a big thankyou to drumpat01 for helping me with this. :D

Oh - I'll add Cyberduck to the instructions. :)

You're quite welcome XIII. There has been some serious uploading going on today so far. In one day we already have the same amount has the FileFront site has. How are the download speeds so far? Is this better to use than filefront?

Awesome job, guys. :D I still haven't watched this year's MWSF, so I'll be excited when that one shows up!

I'm downloading MacWorld NY 1998 right now. I don't believe I've ever seen this one!

I'll most likely get started uploading something after this download finishes.

I'll do it for you. :)

EDIT: Just an idea - if the uploaders post in this thread what they have uploaded, we will try and credit you. :)

Just tried to upload WWDC 2003 and got a "upload failed" error in FTP Thingy. Honestly, I don't really like this app all that much. At one point, it was using like 189MB of RAM.

I've tried RBrowser and didn't really like it, either. I liked CyberDuck, but when I tried to download it earlier from VersionTracker, it wouldn't download. I also just tried the link to it in this thread and it wouldn't work, either. I guess their server is down.

Sorry about that. CyberDuck seems to be the way to go for free. If you want to try something else, get it touch with me. I know some good ones.

It's cool, man. I think I'm just gonna wait and see if that link starts working again. I doubt it'll be down for long.

I just wanna say, I'm glad I can help out with this project as much as I can (I'm the webhost, I installed wordpress and setup the FTP), Jack (XIII) had a great idea here and is doing a great job carrying it out!

Also, without the people with the files this wouldn't be possible :).

You are credited on the About page. :) Thanks a lot.

Just got CyberDuck to download. I'm about to upload WWDC 2003!

Sweet. :) I'll be uploading WWDC 2004, and 2005 (or maybe one of those is already up), MWSF 2005, and Steve's Stanford speech, all overnight.

Yeah, I believe WWDC 2004 is already up. I need to get that. I don't think I've seen it yet.

WWDC 2003 is uploading right now. CyberDuck is GREAT. It's definitely the best FTP client I've used for OS X.

PLEASE ZIP your file before you upload it and make sure it is in the correct folder. /applekeynotes/keynotes. if not we have to download it, create the .zip file, then reupload it, then post it. Just be double sure you're following the correct directions. Thank you.
