With both 8.0 and 8.0.2 on an iPhone 6 Plus 128gb:

I am crashing to the black screen with the centered white Apple logo, 2-3 x / day.

It has happened in places where I've never had reliability issues before, or on my iPhone 5 still running 8.0:

- in Awesome Note (local version of Evernote)

- in Google / Google Now

in fact, the Google app is almost unusable for me
there's about a 1 minute lag between when I tape on the microphone and when it responds

Google Now cards just sit there frozen even when I swipe

- when tapping for Touch ID to go back to Downcast

Any suggestions?

It happened just one time to my iPhone, but my wife was playing with it so I don't know exactly what she was doing.
Try to restore with iTunes and if it keeps crashing go get a replacement unit

test please?

Can someone else with an iPhone 6 Plus running 8.0.2 please try Google and Google Now cards?

Do yours freeze on the screen?

Literally 100% of the time now my Google Now cards won't swipe away.
The screen freezes either permanently or for 15 - 60 seconds.

I was hoping this was an 8.0.2 problem.

I'll be bummed if I need to exchange my phone.... Just got it Ghost Armor'd :(:(:(.

I just tested the google app out and spoke into the mic very quickly after I taped it and all responded without error.

So I would do the restore method someone said above.

Restore as new. No apps. If it still does it, exchange.
OK.

2 Questions:

1) re: restore as new, Do you mean, re-initialize as new?
(via some combination of holding buttons down like I had to do on my iPhone4)

Or, are you referring to a "Restore" option from iTunes application that "restores" the iphone as new like when I got it

2) Will I need to
- re-install all my apps manually
- rebuild all my app folders manually
?

Thanks so much for trying that and replying.

Make a backup first-iCloud or via itunes.

Then go to settings/general/reset/erase all content and settings.

When the phone reboots, do not restore it from a backup. Set it up as a new phone. See if the issue continues. This is the only way to tell if it's the app causing the issues or the hardware. Apple will ask if you go in if you did this.

If the issue does not happen, add the apps back one at a time and try each out. This will narrow down what is causing the issue. If you add the trouble apps back and they work fine, your backup could be corrupt. It happens.

Update:

iPhone 6 Plus still has been crashing to the black screen - white apple logo about once - twice a day.

Worse, this happens during calls. The really ODD thing is: it doesn't disconnect the call. The person on the other end doesn't realize anything has happened. It's a soft crash.

Quandary
I was going to wait and do this reset after Christmas holiday after Q4 is closed because I have hundreds of apps. Adding them back 1 by 1 will take forever. I just don't have the time right now.

I have 3 categories apps that I use.
- daily use or frequent use
- monthly or periodic (fertility planner, car service app, etc)
- one set that I use when I travel for work in the US or internationally, depending on the destination

However, after crashing to the white Apple logo during 2 business calls yesterday, I started the erase last night. I backed up my app specific data, but I forgot to back up my 43 new pictures I've taken in past week. So I did a restore from backup (instead of starting from scratch) holding my breath that the pictures would be there (I don't store my pictures on someone else's computer i.e., the cloud.) et voila. they were there. And the restore actually restored all my program groups correctly.

Google Now seems a little happier / more responsive, but it has already crashed once since the restore.

At this point, should I try the start-from-scratch scenario, or just exchange it?
(what would you do?)

iOS Internals Question

Let's say that I decide to start from scratch.

How can I save a visual of how I have all my apps arranged ?

Each screen and the app arrangement in each screen?
ex: When I travel to New York City, I keep the best subway app in the top of the "New York City" program group.

How can I save my folder arrangement so that I can later see it to manually re-create it?

There are a fair number of complaints about the iphone 6 plus running ios 8.0.2 (or earlier for that matter) having mini crashes where the white apple logo appears for several seconds before coming back to life. You are not alone. This happens to me with some regularity.

Some (in the apple forums) have suggested that one possible cause for some of these crashes is the screen size and the trouble apps/ios is having sizing/resizing for the plus screen. One person found some relief by activating the "zoom" screen in the settings. Not a great solution but worth trying until, hopefully, apple figures it out.

Thanks Uccle - I haven't seen anyone else complain about this.

Is that the same thing as selecting "zoomed" icons during setup, so that the icons appear bigger?

I've always set it up like that.

Either set as new and try again or just exchange it. It should work, if it doesn't then dont waste your time and just exchange it, let them figure it out, it's not your job.

The Google app is terrible on the 6 Plus. Just read the reviews on the App Store right now. You are not alone.

Agree!

But if I set it up as new, and re-add my apps 1 by 1, I still need a way to remember, for example, which of all my New York City subway apps I downloaded AND found useful enough to keep and put on the top row of the folder vs the ones that were useful as a Plan B - ex: the bus app. I don't want to have to figure that out again by trial and error next month when I go back. Same for Washington DC, etc.

Do 3'rd party tools exist to access iTunes backups that would give me a picture of how I had all my iPhone 5 screens and folders set up?

I'm guessing I will need this because when:
- I set it up as new after a full erase (no restore)
- I plug the iPhone 6 Plus into iTunes
- I click on the "Apps" tab
iTunes will just show me the empty phone.

Not the apps I had before I erased the phone. Right?

So I guess my question is:

How can I make iTunes show me the app folders and folder arrangement of a previous backup (or my iPhone 5 backup)?

just make screenshots of your current apps/folders. 5 minutes of work

Unfortunately, yes. If yours is set up that way already, obviously this won't help. Dang!

But iphone 6 plus (maybe 6 too, don't know) mini-crashing seems to be a problem. If you want to feel less alone google it or check out the apple support forums. No good answer there yet, tho'.
