I've seen in several videos of iOS 18.2 beta and now the full release being discussed that 18.2 is supposed to allow the use of Face ID to authenticate when plugging in locally via cable to sync in Finder.

I have scoured the settings on my iPhone and Mac, and I see no such setting, and it still asks for the passcode every time I plug in to sync.

iPhone 15 PM and M4 Mini, updated to 18.2 and 15.2 respectively.

Id love to hear what people are seeing with regards to this.

Thanks

Bump....

Now into iOS 18.3.1 and Sequoia 15.3.1 and still it asks for passcode while backing up.

I swear I haven't invented this feature in my head, I distinctly remember hearing about it on Zollotech youtube channel, during one of the iOS 18.1 or 18.2 videos. I have gone thru some of those videos and I just can't find the mention of it.

I believe it worked on my 16 Pro a couple weeks back. I was expecting passcode and was surprised it asked for Face ID.

Great, so I'm not nuts. Now just to figure out how to make it work here lol... Have you enabled anything special that you recall?

I have a watch in the ecosystem as well and that works perfectly with the phone unlocking it via Face ID.

No, I didn't do anything unusual. Not sure what could be the difference.
