I think the most surprising thing to come out of the iPad2 press event was that Verizon and AT&T will have separate models. When you factor in the new white model, that adds up to a whopping 18 different SKU numbers! Crazy!

Is this the largest number of models that Apple has ever had for a hardware release? My hope is that in future years they combine the carriers into the same device. It would be nice to flip your 3G (or 4G by then) service onto the carrier of your choice rather then having your hardware locked to a carrier like a phone. I don't want that in a portable computing device. I want flexible choices. Not 18 separate ones!
