So I saw a $18 upgrade fee on my receipt. Did anybody else see this on their receipts? I thought every 2 years we were eligible for a free upgrade. Maybe this will be waived on the actual bill.

Assuming you mean AT&T, the $18 fee is shown on the website every time I've looked over the last several months.

I did my upgrade pre-order on the phone. My ATT rep said the $18 charge would show up but my wireless bill would then be credited for it.

Hopefully that $18 goes to better server management for the next launch. ;)

it's not a free upgrade every 2 years, it's a discounted phone that you're eligible for.

They've always charged $18 to upgrade.

It may have been free with dumbphones.

I just called and spoke to lady that sold me the phone and she said it is waived in the computer and to not worry about the paperwork. Does she know what she is talking about lol?

Yes, I went into my local AT&T store and they hit me with the $18.00 update fee. I got my order notification a couple of hours ago. Says my phone will ship in the next 14 to 21 days... I thought they were going to be here on Oct the 14th... I guess as long as I get it .... but wish I could get it on the 14th.

You still MIGHT get it the 14th, but don't expect it. From what I've read they are kicking out the estimated delivery dates to earlier orders (compared to the 4) to prevent the mess that happened last year.

I think they should do away with pre-orders in the future. It always gets people all worried and pissed off. If they are doing it on a first come first serve basis anyways then why have pre-orders? Why not open the doors to these stores the day of release and let people get their phones until they run out.

Because some of us have jobs/school/lives that sleeping overnight outside an Apple store would interrupt.

+1 I was pissed off at the iPad 2 launch with no preorders. Total lack of respect for their customers time.

So Apple should forgo the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of phones that are sold through pre-ordering? There are going to be ridiculous lines on launch day and most stores will probably run out of stock, and that's with the preordering option. Your suggestion is just bad business.

Bad business is advertising that phones will be delivered on the release date but then when you pre-order the email says 14-21 days. As far as I know this is just with AT&T, not sure about Apple, Verizon or Best Buy. I am not going to complain now because the 14th is not here yet. But if I don't get my phone by the 15th then I will be severely pissed off because I am going on deployment and won't be home for a month.

I just hope everything works out! So back to the original topic.... $18 fee? Really? lol

I have read about people staying up until 4am trying to get their pre-order in.

Silly them, I just swing by the computer while coffee's brewing at 5:30 or 6am. Gives time for Apple/ATT/etc to sort out their issues. :)

Of course, at 4:30pm Eastern Apple.com is still showing Delivers on Oct 14th.

Either they have a bunch more stock this year or initial demand isn't as high (lack of an across the board upgrade bump and lack of a real "wow" factor would do this)

Did you even think this out before you typed it?
