I have a really slow connection where I live and 3 Macs. Is there a way to download Yosemite once and then distribute it to all the machines locally?

Create a bootable USB drive from the Yosemite image.. Go to http://liondiskmaker.com/ and grab the latest beta which support Yosemite to create a USB. Use the USB to upgrade/image all Macs until Apple creates a new OS!
Oh, there's an installer app? I remember there being one in my launch pad for Mavericks but I couldn't find the actual install disk I'll give it and try and see if I can find it this time! 😉

I'm just wondering if i want to go back to Mavericks - how can i download securely file from? i can't seem to find anywhere in app store - obviously they have removed from the server.
I just find out making bootable USB (Thank to DiskMaker X) is easier then i though - it's fun to swap HDs between Mavericks and Yosemite.

It's easy!
1) "Purchase" (for free) Yosemite from the App Store. Let it download.
2) Go to the Applications folder, look for the installer. (It should be named "Install OS X Yosemite".)
3) Download Lion DiskMaker - make sure you have an external hard drive with an empty partition and/or that the external HD is empty. Follow the instructions, then you're all set!
You don't need to download Yosemite again and again, saving you valuable bandwidth.

Ah, after I downloaded Yosemite from the Mac App Store I checked in my Applications and there was an installer there. I just threw a copy in my public folder and downloaded it to the other machines! Worked great. 😀

Yep. The trick is to grab the installer before doing the actual installation. 🙂

while you can simply copy the installer app.
It is worth the extra legwork to make an installer thumb drive.
The imaged thumb drive has several useful utilities sort of like the old OS X system discs used to have.
This also gives you a nice recovery option if for example you lose your system drive on your Mac (but had TM backups, right?).
