Some observations with the Apple SIM:

- If you select AT&T as a carrier, you get this message:

"Once activation completes, this Apple SIM can only be used with "AT&T". You will need a new Apple SIM if you change carriers in the future".

Very disappointing. So much for switching carriers at will. I have not seen the same message when selecting Sprint or T-Mobile, but I didn't go beyond the initial plan selection screens yet.

- T-Mobile has a quite attractive introductory offer: 5GB of data for 5 months for $10.

Thanks for the information. Where do you go to get the T-Mo deal?

I've never used TMo, but their rates have convinced me to try them out. any idea what happens if you use up the 5gb early? Can you just buy another pass (such as a monthly pass) on top of the existing one?

Do you still get the 200mb free each month, on top of the 150-day pass?

AT&T permanently deactivates the sim card if you don't use it for more than 60 days (you need to get a new sim card). They had to lock the card to AT&T in order to continue this policy.

edit: I got the information from http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2013/01/prepaid-tablet-data-plans-compared.html but was unable to find it in the AT&T plan terms so I'm not sure now.

Sounds like an excellent reason not to chose ATT.

As said before, it's not really a whole to to look at:

Note: The ICCID has been 'shopped up so the numbers and letters are randomized. That's not my actual ICCID (and I'm not using this SIM anyway... I popped in my old T-Mobile iPad SIM from before instead).

Normally I'd blur the ICCID number out completely, but I wanted to illustrate something I noticed: Apple SIMs seem to have their ICCIDs in hexademical (0-9 and A B C D E F), whereas all the SIM cards I've seen from carriers are numeric only.

It also doesn't follow the standard ICCID format for SIMs. So that's interesting.

I'm guessing all Apple SIMs start with "A1" which is unlike how SIMs meant for mobile cellular devices are supposed to start ("89").
