It would be interesting to learn how accurate pedometers in our "smart" devices are. Do they pat on our shoulders when they think we met the goal of X steps while you actually made half of it? Let's find out.

I'll test my iPhone 5 later, but I just tested my Gear S and it was 100% accurate - 100 steps.

Your turn! It's fun and takes just a minute.

My wrist pedometer doesn't remove the inactivity bar until I have done 200 steps. So I can be puttering around the house and doing things, and it will still think I'm a couch potato. Harsh.

I like the Polar Loop, which if you're in "fat-burning" mode, just displays the word FAT in large red LED capitals on your wrist for the world to see.

100-step test: Mine so appallingly overcounts I'd rather not name the brand.

I found that Fitbit was dead on but the iPhone 5s would periodically not count any steps at all until I restarted it or only count partial steps for the day. Because of that experience I haven't bothered with the 6 yet but should take a look.

This is similar to my experience with my Fitbit and the iPhone 6 M8 sensor. The iPhone 6 underestimates my steps by a wide margin even when I adjust to not carrying my phone. I do not know which one is accurate anymore.

I have tried this several times with my Samsung Gear Fit, and the most I have gotten have been 102 and the least 99.

Pretty accurate I would say - not bad at all for a device that is worn on your wrist.

Odd, my iPhone seems to read a lot higher than my fitbit. Except for flights climbed; the iPhone 6 really short changes me there

Does the health kit app display your steps without needing another app?

M8 meaning iP6 and iP6+ always count steps and report it to Health App. You can also allow other apps to provide step data to HA and give that data priority.
