Hi all,
first, thanks to the many people on the forums that contributed to my success. I am trying to pass that on to make someone's life easier.
My method to create a bootable RAID0 from two SSDs on a Sonnet Tempo Pro Plus. This system is a Mac Pro 5,1.
1. Create the RAID0 for the two SSDs on the SATA backplane (attaching them to two of the four hard disk slots on the Mac Pro).
2. Install OS X on the drives. Follow all the steps and boot/reboot as needed with the drives on the SATA backplane.
3. Select the RAID0, and reboot making sure you can boot from the new install.
4.Attach the SSDs to the Tempo card, and boot from another drive (I used my original spinning disk with OS X on it).
5. Verify that the OS can see the RAID0 on the card and select it in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES-STARTUP DISK.
6. Try and boot to the RAID0. If this fails, then follow this link and run the Marvell firmware update. (MarvellFlasherGUI). The updator100 is for PC, NOT for MAC. http://www.sonnettech.com/support/downloads/software/MarvellFlasherGUI.dmg
7. It will ask for reboot, and will ask if you want to run the firmware update. Hit "Y". TWICE (this is most likely due to two controllers/SSDs)
8. It will reboot, and it should reboot into your RAID0 (because you selected it in step #5).
9. Sit back in amazement at how fast it is!
10. Remove all drives from the SATA backplane, and test it.
I did not try and clone my hard drive, btw. New install.
I used Intel 730 SDDs, and they are fast without any tinkering (820-860MB/s in both read and write according to black magic).
Again, thanks to all on the forum for the help. Sonnet, you owe these guys!
