Hi

Will the current Mac Mini (2014) run a 3440x1440 display at 60 (not 50) Hz?

Although the Mini specs say "Support for up to two displays at 2560x1600 pixels" I am hoping someone has tried running a Ultra Wide QHD at 60Hz?

Thanks

The last post in the Apple thread indicates 4K at 30Hz.

Thanks for this link blueroom - good information there. I am hoping that the 3440x1440 resolution might just work as it is less than the 4K 3840x2160 res

You trying to run the LG 21:9 ultrawide?

Yes, I want to replace my iMac with a new mac… and in the process of researching a Mac Mini and display combo I have really grown keen on these
LG 21:9 ultrawide 3440x1440 displays…

The dpi is very close to apples 27" display, which is about right for me, and the 21:9 aspect looks great!

I have read that the Mini (2012) can run 3440x1440 @50Hz so hoping the Iris Graphics could just get it to 60Hz?

I should add that the Mini (2012) cannot run 3440x1440 @50Hz in Yosemite but not sure about the new Mini?

Yes, it can. I'm running the curved LG 3440x1440 at 60hz comfortably with no problems.

Give me a tissue.

Q: Are you using Thunderbolt or the DP connection?

Currently using a 2560 x 1080 21:9 display and love the form factor and am looking to upgrade to this monitor. It is one of the reasons I got a 2014 Mini (Iris) and put a 980 in my gaming PC.

Q2: Why the curved over the flat form factor ?

I am kind of waiting for the AOC version to hit the US and maybe save a few$.

I can too verify this with a 2012 MBP with a Thunderbolt 1 connection. No issues at all!

3440x1440 is well within DP 1.1 specs so no problem 60hz.

Also works on my G46VW with a Thunderbolt 1 connection (windows laptop)

More great news! Looks like the 60Hz must be down to the graphics of each mac then...

I've connected my mini to it with thunderbolt, and my pc to it with DP.

Curved is nicer. Might not be good for you if you need straight lines for editing work. I don't, so I love it.

How do you have connected the Mac mini 2012 to the Samsung S34E790C? Do you run full resolution of 3440x1440 with 50 Hz? I'm looking for a 34" curved Monitor with 3440x1440 resolution for my Mac mini (late 2012) with Intel i5 2,5 GHz. Can you recommend one?

Is it a mini displayport to displayport cable? As far as i know, the Samsung S34E790C does not have a mini displayport, right?

Greetings from Hamburg, Germany. ;-)

Can anyone confirm if the Thunderbolt connection on the LG screens will pass USB, or if I'll need to use the USB uplink port as well as TB for video?

The Thunderbolt on the LGs passed video, audio, USB, and of course allows for Thunderbolt daisy chaining. I basically use mine as a dock so that I only have to attach the single cable.

how to get 3440x1440 at 60hz. please help me?
Which computer/OS are you running? On my 2012 mini I eventually got this resolution @50Hz offered directly and “officially” in Settings -> Monitor, so I’d expect something similar to be true for the 2014 and 60Hz.

Btw.: In my opinion it’s difficult to distinguish 50Hz from 60Hz on a flatscreen monitor in the first place, so it’s not really needed (we are not running CRT monitors anymore, where the difference could have been far more obvious).
