iPod touch iTunes just erased my old iPod touch & won't restore

I have a very old iPod Touch that I use on my Bose sound dock and just love. It had all my music. I just tried to update my Playlist from iTunes on it (something I have avoided for years because iTunes always wipes out my previous Playlists). I plugged the iTouch into my MacBook Pro and iTunes, but it would not accept the new Playlist. Then iTunes told me I had to upgrade the iOS on it (which was list ver. 1) and I finally agreed. It then said it was not possible to upgrade, and in the process it erased EVERYTHING on the iTouch. I clicked the Restore option, but it says it cannot restore!

I have a dead iPod Touch that will not even turn on! It shows the apple logo, and does nothing else.

How can I fix this? Please?

See if TinyUmbrella can start it up again. I was stuck in a Recovery Loop with all my stuff on it, are you sure it's erased? or just that you can't access anything? Try giving these instructions a follow and see if it does any good, it should allow you to look inside your iPods file system to see if you can find your music, if not, following the repair shown at the end might allow iTunes to restore the iPod. One time I saw a way of downloading a firmware and making iTunes use that to restore an iPod Touch or iPhone, so maybe give that a look into too.

In that link it mentions about needing to install 'JRE-7-Windows-i586-iftw.exe' for it to work, but you can try without it to see if it works.

If /mnt2 doesn’t show, restart the instructions for Putty, and after typing in the root and password, (before typing ‘mount.sh’), enter in:

fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s1s2

It will go through a repair, wait till it’s done, and mnt2 should work. Hope this works out for you.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Though I suspect that even if I get the iTouch up and running again that I'll have the same problem trying to update it with the iTunes.
