when do you think the new 12-inch Macbook Air will be released?

Either WWDC in June, or perhaps at a small keynote February-ish if they do one to give more details about the Apple Watch. Not sure how likely that is though.

At least one, maybe two 12" products will be released by Apple in 2015. If that includes a Retina MacBook Air it will most likely either come at the same event as the Apple Watch release or during the WWDC keynote.
Some possibly suitable chips have now been released by Intel, so if the 12" macbook exists it's now just a case of waiting for Apple's release schedule.

It would be possible to see it rocking an enhanced A8X with say 4 or 6 cores as x86 to arm translation is not as resource heavy as you may think. With a MacBook Air having a much larger battery than an iPad, it would be able to have an increased core count/clock speed and still maintain great battery life. And due to MacBooks being much thinker and have a larger surface area, the increased heat generated from the increased cores and clock speed would have a larger heat spread.
Thoratically speaking, if the performance scaled equally when increasing the core count (which it doesn't but is close enough for the purpose of this example), you would be looking at a SoC that could active 8000 on Geekbench when running iOS. So even with real time compiling of x86 to arm for just 3rd party apps (all Apple software could be re compiled by Apple so they run arm natively) it should still be an increase over current gen airs in terms of performance, but with much battery battery life and much less power draw.
so the majority think it will be announced at WWDC? new report from Digitimes says it's coming out as soon as this quarter....meaning it could be out by next month or March...
oh it's because i started this thread before the report was posted....plus, i don't see how Apple would release anything before the release of Apple Watch which is rumored to be announced in March....

Keys spaced closer together is a sure sign they have no idea what they're talking about. When was the last time Apple released a laptop that didn't have a full sized keyboard? The PowerBook Duo? Why would they do such a thing?
Also, what's the point of reducing the number of USB ports? The original MBA only had one USB port but that's because Apple wanted to hide all the ports under that plastic flap. Now that they stopped that nonsense, what would be the advantage of only having one USB port?
You could argue that it would save space... but what's the strategy there? Shift the keyboard over to the side that doesn't have a port? Make an asymmetric laptop?

I'm in the same boat.
I just want a retina display....but if it will come with less ports then ppl should be happy because this means it will be thinner and lighter and that's what's the Air is all about, Mobility.
PPl who complain shouldn't complain at all, they can switch to the 13 inch rMBP because it's light and powerful enough.

I must admit I'm very excited about this particular computer. The sleekness, edge to edge keyboard, no more grey bezel, retina, no unnecessary ports, no embarrassing illuminated apple logo, fanless - everything about this computer appeals to me. I think it'll represent the next aesthetic step forward (both visually and portability-wise) for Apple.
Is it going to support 4k at 60hz? I am not sure what Intel means with this??
