Ordered a custom i7 512ssd 290x and it is shipping from CA, are these built in the US now? Was surprised

Only custom order macs are assembled in the U.S. the stock ones are manufactured in China except the Mac Pro which is assembled in the U.S. regardless if stock or custom

My launch-day BTO Retina iMac shipped from China. It must have been more recently when they started shipping from the U.S.

My retina iMac (i7/32/512/M295X, self-upgraded RAM) also shipped from the US, along with my two nMPs (each 12-core/64/1TB/D700).

You also mentioned owning a 13" rMBP, 15" rMBP (with 1 TB SSD), 21.5" iMac, and 2014 Mac mini. How are you affording all these Macs?

I've 12 separate Macs, each of which are financed by my job as a full-time software dev at one of the largest companies in Silicon Valley (can't name it publicly for some reasons) and also as a cinematographer. Each of them's crucial to my work, and it does help that my job pays me really well. Plus, my freelancing work in photography has yielded me quite a fair amount too.

3 iMacs (late-2013 21.5" and 27", one 5k iMac)
4 MBPs (late-2013 13" rMBP baseline from a lucky draw given to my mom, BTO late-2013 13" rMBP, maxed-out late-2013 15" and a maxed-out early-2011 15")
2 nMPs, identically maxed out for cinematography work and bare-metal hypervisor for several VMs
1 Mac Mini (2012 2.6GHz QC as a HTPC and living room system)
1 13" MacBook Air mid-2013, maxed out.
1 company-supplied mid-2012 13" cMBP which I barely use.

Anyone know the URL of the website that can lookup your iMac's manufacturing location based on serial number? I saw a thread somewhere about it.

Update...

I doubt any iMac's are assembled in the USA. As a prior poster said, it's just custom Macs and all Mac Pros.

To see what week/year and what factory yours was made in, visit:

http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/

And plug in your serial number.

Great link, thanks! Mine is made in China, Quanta!

You might want to dissemble it to see how many parts inside are actually made in China.

Received my custom build order and well the casing is discolored and scratched up on both sides. Machine runs great. Are these casing refurbished if they are assembled in us? Little ticked off.

If you bought it directly from Apple, you have 14 days to return it for any reason. You can either request an exchange or your money back. I'd recommend doing so if you are not 100% satisfied. Mentioning the problem here doesn't really help you.

Just placed an order for our custom Retina iMac. Order said March 5 for delivery to Apple store. Being that customs are assembled in Ca., have the lead times been better than expected, expected or later?

Mine cam 2 days before it was scheduled to the store. Live in Ca.
