While Apple discounted the Apple TV to $69 in the United States this afternoon, it also raised the prices on several products across many countries due to the strength of the U.S. dollar. A wide selection of Apple products, including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt Display, are now more expensive in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Portugal and multiple other countries to reflect currency adjustments.

Apple now charges up to $3,049 for the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro in Canada
A spot check of the Apple Online Store in Canada, for example, reveals that Apple has increased the price of the unlocked iPhone 6 from between $749-$969 to $839-$1,099, Thunderbolt Displays from $999 to $1,199, and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pros from between $2,099-$2,699 to $2,449-$3,049. Apple also hiked the price on the 15-inch MacBook Pro in France, with the base model now starting at EUR2,249 up from EUR1,999, and the higher-spec model up to EUR2,799 from EUR2,499.

Apple has made similar price adjustments in countries around the world today in order to ensure parity with United States pricing, following a period in which several Apple products were actually priced at a bargain compared to American prices. For instance, prior to the pricing adjustment, the Thunderbolt Display retailed for $999 in Canada, the same price as in the United States, which converts to around $799 in U.S. dollars based on the average conversion rate over the past month.

The updated prices went into effect following the return of the Apple Online Store at the conclusion of Apple's "Spring Forward" media event in San Francisco this afternoon. Should the U.S. dollar weaken, as happened in July 2011, Apple will continue to make the necessary adjustments in order to ensure that its products and services are as consistently priced as possible throughout the world. In some cases, international prices will remain higher than U.S. prices due to taxes, import duties and to create a buffer against currency fluctuations.

Out of curiosity, did Apple raise wages for its staff around the world?
Legit question, I simply don't know, but I assume I'd have read about this by now on here?

Glassed Silver:mac

PS: I know why they wouldn't do it, I didn't expect anything else, but I felt like giving them the benefit of doubt for as long as I really don't know any better.
You see, they escape taxes left and right, arguably their share holders are some form of pressure too and they halfheartedly pressure governments to fix some tax codes, noted.
However, while the "small guy" in the chain is supposed to make up for currency fluctuations on products that have already obscene margins whilst well ignoring that people's incomes didn't suddenly spike, they aren't leading by example, meaning raising wages where products become more expensive, too.

Apple has always asked premium prices, but recently they are becoming quite greedy, especially with hidden costs of which there are plenty, granted, some dating back to Jobs times, too.

Every single Apple Laptop went up by $200 in Australia sadly :(

Apple should start paying its proper income tax here if it wants to jack up prices (although I do acknowledge prices are somewhat dependent on the exchange rate). The non Retina Macbook went up to $1549 - which is well above the currency conversion and our GST... not overly fair.

:( dam currently fluctuations.

Exchange Rates fluctuate every-day, so i dunno why it is reported only now to say "keep in price with U.S dollar"

Could this be only because they want more money, but trying to hide this ? :apple:

However, a quick check on Apple site revealed no change i can see just due to this change., here is OZ, GST has always been an issue.

2.7 inch 13" Macbook Pro A$2,099.00

although i don't think i took into account the re-fresh

I bought my rMBP a week ago and people here recommended to return it and get the new one, but looks like this isn't going to happen. Turns out I had somewhat lucky timing. Saved almost 200 EUR.

I am glad I got my iPhone 6 Plus before this price hike. I was really looking forward to getting an :apple:Watch, but not with the price hike. Can't justify it.

Besides, :apple:Pay still shows no signs of coming to Canada either despite on/off rumours.

FYI... $69 Apple TV discounted ,, only for the U.S.. ::eek: that sux. its still $109 here..... We deserve as much a discount as any.

Seems Apple likes to neglect allot of things if it will make themselves more better, across all there products.

I know exchange rate isn't Apples fault but I already feel like most of their products are overpriced as it is. Not to mention how buggy ios and osx have been lately.

I've been an Apple guy for awhile but with how far Android has come and the strides Microsoft has made I might think about jumping ship next time I have to upgrade.

The horrible exchange rate is the single reason I will not be buying an Apple Watch... $519 for the 42mm sport watch? No thanks. I have been using Apple products almost exclusively (where possible) for 15 years, but Apple has been leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. Like others I may be looking at other options come upgrade time. Apple makes products that are high quality and that's for certain, but their prices are beginning to become ridiculous.

I think the AppleTV DID get a discount. They probably increased the price to take into account the exchange rate and then deducted the $30 to match the price drop in the US.

Probably what's happened.

Behold the currency wars and unlimited money printing. Fed started it, now Japan and the Eurogroup are finishing it. Terrible all around.

The unlocked 16GB iPhone 6 now costs $1000 in Australia and it goes all the way up to $1449 for a 128GB 6 Plus. I can literally purchase a 13 inch Macbook Air for less than an iPhone 6 Plus. And converting the $949 it costs for an unlocked 128GB Plus in the US, it is $1241 in Australian Dollars. Ridiculous.

Same here, even when the Canadian Dollar was kicking the U.S. Dollar a year or 2 ago most Apple products always had a $50 premium in Canada for some reason. Apple just being greedy.

I'm afraid my planned upgrade will not be happening with prices like this. Just can't think of an idea of paying this premium. Will either have to skip this cycle or look at alternatives. Apple may be shooting themselves in a foot if this actually lowers their sales worldwide which it might with such a steep hike in pricing.

It's funny how they won't lower the price though when the opposite is happening (like when the Australian dollar was nearly 1:1 with the US Dollar).

The idea that Apple adjusts prices to create any sort of consistency across currencies is a fantasy. Apple doesn't care about this at all. The only thing they really care about is competitiveness within these various markets, and of course maintaining margins. That is why they adjust prices.

See above.

Wut? Up $350 for Canada? Really?? Why only now?

What is happening at Apple? Seriously? It's as if the company's main focus right now is more on aesthetics and more $$$. I mean, from the "diverse" emojis, the animated maps bullcrap, then we have a 12-inch laptop that's obviously just spray-painted garbage, overpriced watches???

I've always chosen the Mac over PC for 5-ish years now ever since I laid my hands on my first mbp coz I think OSX has always been way better for me personally, but damn, if this continues, I think I'm jumping ship next time I need an upgrade. :(
