Is the HD6000 able to do this? The new intel NUC with broadwell claim to be able to support 4K, so I'd think the Airs would as well.

Sorry if it's been discussed already.
 
You are quite correct the HD6000 does support 4K @ 60 Hz. However Apple have not enabled this functionality. The iris pro 15" where in a similar position and apple patched the graphics driver to enable this functionality.

even my Surface Pro 3 (HD 5000 grafics) connects via display port 1.2 to the dell 4k monitor and to the panasonic 4k tv 4k with 60Hz without any problem

Nope. It doesn't. You need a HQ or MQ class with Intel HD4600 or Iris Pro 5200 to output 4K at 60 Hz. Surface Pro 3 can do 4K at 52 Hz though just like iris 5100 on the rmbp 13

If the screen uses MST the Surface can do 60hz.
