I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed this but I just hooked up the new 13'' rMBP to my 4K monitor and it is beautiful! The jump from 30 to 60hz really makes a world of a difference.

For someone waiting for a rMBP 13 with a 60hz 4k screen on the desk already this is great news. Thanks for sharing! Thunderbolt --> DP adapter then DP 1.2 to screen i assume?

Yeah, I purchased an adapter off of monoprice for like $6 bucks or something insanely cheap.

can you elaborate on the "world of a difference"? I cannot tell the difference.

how did you test that you are actually getting 60hz?

Sure, everything is faster. For example, it's especially noticeable when moving windows.

Most 4K monitors will tell you the input signal on their menu screen.

The 4K 60Hz output from the new 13" rMBP looks fantastic on my 4K Dell P2715Q.

Yeah, I forgot to answer that part. It's under the display settings on the monitor under "info". I am using the Samsung UD590

ok, have to check where in the menu on my dell up2414q, as far as I remember it only tells you the port, not the refresh rate. To be honest looking at a picture at 30 or 60hz does not make any difference. I dont understand when people say 30hz is not usable, I connected my MBP 2015 and dont see any noticeable difference at 60hz for normal use (Office, web, Lightroom). Really trying to like my new MBP but to be honest I think my Mac Mini 2014 does the job equally well, I think it will go back to the store.

I agree 60hz makes world of a difference. I'm probably not be using this feature on my new rMBP 2015, but thanks for sharing. Good to know it's capable

Guess which one is 60hz

OK, here are two videos, one is 30hz and the other 60hz, since there is a world of difference, can anyone tell which video is which?

Both videos are at 30fps... How are we supposed to tell the difference if they have the same framerate?
The internet is full of comparison 30vs60, for example https://frames-per-second.appspot.com/

You are right, I thought iphone default output was 60fps. Your link says it all, unless you see that side by side it is difficult to tell if you are on 30 or 60.
For watching a movie 30 or 60 does not make any difference. For computing, unless you need to read text in a window while shifting it at the speed of light it does not make any difference either. I just don't see this world of difference unless you are gaming with the computer.

I disagree with you. Normally a smooth computer experience is considered such at 60fps of refresh rate. If you have less, you see stuttering during window moving, scrolling and such. For watching a movie it doesn't make difference because they are at 24fps usually.

I guess it all depends on our individual needs. E.g. not long ago I was discussing on this board with people that find 90 ppi monitors "very sharp". Personally I don't spend much time moving windows around so don't see much difference.

Here's a pic of my setup with my newly purchased Dell P2715Q 4K monitor. It works great via 4K @ 60Hz with the included cable.

THat's because most movies don't film at 60fps.
