Belkin today announced that it's partnering with lighting company Cree to add the Connected Cree lightbulb to the Belkin WeMo connected-home ecosystem. In the summer of 2015, Connected Cree bulbs will be compatible with the ZigBee-to-WiFi WeMo Link bridge and will be able to be controlled with the WeMo app that's used to control all of Belkin's WeMo devices.

The Connected Cree bulb's integration into the WeMo system will allow it to work with several of Belkin's other WeMo products through the WeMo app, including the WeMo Light Switch, the WeMo Insight Switch, the WeMo Maker, WeMo's Smart LED bulbs, and the NetCam HD+.
Integrating fully with the WeMo ecosystem will allow Cree customers to easily create a fully integrated smart home customized to their needs and schedule. For example, the NetCam HD+ can act as a motion sensor to automatically turn on the bulbs as soon as motion is triggered by opening the door or just walking into the room.

Using the WeMo app and Cree bulbs, users can create a variety of rules and actions that make home life easier and more comfortable.
Cree's Connected Cree bulb is one of the more affordable smart bulbs available on the market and can be purchased for $15 from Home Depot. Introduced in January of this year, the bulb is compatible with Wink and ZigBee platforms thanks to the addition of a Cree4Flow Filament, and it integrates with SmartThings and the Philips hue lighting system in addition to its new WeMo integration. The 60-watt 2,700K single-color bulbs have a brightness of 815 lumens and use 11.5 watts of power.

Belkin's also announcing an updated WeMo app with IFTTT support for its WeMo LED bulbs and WeMo-enabled lighting solutions from Osram Sylvania, allowing its lightbulbs to be incorporated into various IFTTT recipes. The new app should be available this week.

Belkin has also lowered the price of its WeMo LED Starter Set to $49.99 and dropped the price of a single WeMo Smart LED bulb to $24.99.

Are these bulbs multicolored or are they simply an on/off standard light bulb?

These are standard bulbs, but they integrate with almost all systems out today, including HomeKit.

----------

Who cares if they work with Wemo when they are already Homekit compatible! Bring on the HomeKit!

But will the updated Wemo app finally be iPhone 6 optimized? Can we get a widget too? How about Watch integration? Hue is so far ahead, it's getting sad.

Yay! Cree bulbs are cheap and great. Their connected bulbs are only $15.

I wouldn't exactly call them cheap, but they are considerably less expensive than most LED bulbs and the quality is superb! I've had a pair of them in my garage light fixtures and one in my porch fixture for over 2 years now and they've worked flawlessly, rain or shine, cold or hot. Not bad for bulbs rated as indoor use only.

Wow. $15 for an LED bulb, and it's connected on top of that. When I was last looking for an LED bulb (two years ago), they were all $70+. The price on LED bulbs came down quite a bit quicker than I was expecting.

I dont see HomeKit integration on their website. Can you provide a source or link? All I see is that it works with all the different hubs/bridges.

I've heard that WeMo stuff isn't that good and I don't think it integrates with HomeKit. I'd really like to embrace home automation but I think I'm going to be waiting for a bit so that things can shake out.

forgive my stupidity, but whats the point of connected bulbs? doesnt any light fixture or lamp operate off of either a switch on the lamp or a wall switch? for these bulbs to work, do you have to flip the light switch on and hope that one in the house turns the switch off!?!?!?

If the Wemo implementation of the Cree bulb doesn't work any better than the Wemo implementation of their own switches, Cree bulb owners will stay frustrated most of the time.
