I just set my parents up on my old G4 tower. They have a cable modem that has been working without problems on their PC. Now, on the mac, every time they go to use the system (like after a day's time) the internet connection is gone. I recommended that they go in and renew the DHCP lease, which solves the problem, but this isn't a permanent fix. Unfortunately this area of macs is not my specialty. They shouldn't have to renew their DCHP lease every time they want to use their computer. Any ideas what the problem is?

How many computers do you have hooked up to the cable modem? Just the Mac? Or do you have more than one via a switch or router? If you have multiple computers hooked to the cable modem you definitely need a router... well... almost definitely a router... unless you paid your cable modem company for multiple IPs.

Mine too... uggghhhhh.

It's just (trying to be) a straight up vanilla connection to the single Mac.
