I recently upgraded my computer to 10.4.6 and now I can't open any disk images (*.dmg or *.iso). Is anyone else having this problem? I know that the update changed something with Disk Utility... could it have broken it??

Mike

If you Get Info (File menu) on the disk image and check Open With, what does it say it is using? By default, it should be DiskImageMounter. :)

Works fine for me. What were the disk images created with?

It says diskimagemounter.app.

The dmg's were created with Disk Utility and I don't know what the ISO's were created with (Linux distro CD images)

I just verified my disk in Disk Utility and it says it needs repair. Could that be it?

Okay, run fsck to repair your disk. If that doesn't work then maybe look for a file named com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent.plist and drag it to the Desktop and reboot. :)

Ok, I ran Disk Utility from my Tiger installation CD and I repaired my HD and it works now.

Is running FSCK the same as repairing the disk?

Yep. The only difference is that fsck doesn't need the OSX disks and it gets updated with the system so if you have an older install disk, then fsck is probably a better option. If it's all fixed now, I wouldn't worry about it though. :)

Try creating a new user account in System Preferences and tell us if the problem carries over. :)

The problem did carry over to the other account.

I read that another user had the same problem, so tomorrow I might re-install OS X and update it to 10.4.5
