open with.... problem!!

when I select a file and go to "open with" it bring up the usual list of programmes, but 2 of each programme. eg:

photoshop
photoshop
preview
preview

any idea why this is happening or how i can fix it?

i'm using 10.4.6.

It's a mistake in the launchservices database. You can fix it using a program called OnyX or by doing what's described in this thread here:

Reading that thread, using OnyX might be safer....
