According to the wall street journal apple stated that since they took so much criticism everyone is qualified to get the iPhone 3gs at the discounted price until September 30th.

the wall street journal is the most credible business news paper in the US.

read it for your self, about half way through the article they state it.

But AT&T, stung by criticism in recent days, has just decided to offer the lower, new-customer prices at launch to iPhone 3G owners eligible for upgrades at any time up to Sept. 30 of this year, even if they were originally told they'd have to pay the $200 premium.

So everyone who is worried about paying the rediculous $599, worry no more, just show your local apple or at&t store the wall street journal article above.

If thats true I might consider it...

Your reading comprehension skills leave quite a bit to be desired. The offer is NOT for everyone.

what??? this can't be true? I just got out of my local at&t store!

can anyone else confirm this?

Reread with your thinking cap on.

iPhone 3G owners eligible for upgrades at any time up to Sept. 30

If your upgrade eligibility date is after that, you still don't get the lowest price.

thats not what it sound like to me, it sounds like everyone can get the phone at the upgrade price until september 30th. I talked to the AT&T reps and they agreed with me. So please do not flame.

That doesn't cover nearly everybody, it only covers those who would have normally been eligible for an upgrade (NOT an early upgrade) no later than Sept 30, 2009. Most people are not eligible until at least 18 months into their contract, which means that if you bought an iPhone 3G (which did not come out until July 11, 2008) then you probably would not be eligible until at least late 2009 or early 2010. This only helps by at most 2 1/2 months. This has already been discussed ad nauseam on this board.

Trust me. The reps you talked to were misinformed. I guess you can try it but you will leave disappointed.

Well either way, Walt Mossberg is not AT&T and they would never have to stick to what he says..

ok, well sorry, i was just bringing it to everyones attention. I thought it meant we could all get iphones for the discounted price. it sure sounds like it.

You guys are being way too mean. If I was reading that for the first time, without knowing that it was only for people who could get FULL discount pricing up to September, I may have read it like the OP did.
