Looking at the rMBP and the new iMac 21.5 i see the rMBP has the same video card but 1GB VRAM

Anyone know which would work out better in performance during gaming

I hear the rMBP something struggles because of its high res screen, but if you were gaming with a rMBP on an extra monitor with native res of the same as the iMac ( 1920 x 1080 ) its the same but with another 512MB of VRAM

So is the rMBP better for gaming ?

Through a 1920x1080 monitor the rMBP will offer better performance, assuming that the only difference between the GT 650m used in that machine versus the one in the 21.5" iMac is the amount of VRAM. I heard that the GT 650m in the rMBP had higher clock rates than the same chip found in other PC laptops, etc.

How much more performance? I am not sure though. I don't know if it would be enough to make it worth gaming on an external monitor connected to a rMBP over just gaming on say an iMac with the GT 650m.

It would be interesting to get some benchmarks soon on the GT 650m in the 21.5" iMac, or a Windows installation on it to see what clock and memory frequencies are. Or both.

In a few days we'll know everything we need to know. Can't wait for iFixit to give us a thorough tear down too!
