1st gen 2.0 jailbroken/unlocked bought on ebay from US to Australia, sim not working

Hey i bought the 1st gen iphone, 2.0 jailbroken and unlocked. put my sim in it and it sometimes comes up with the provider (vodafone AU) but never works and always dissapears back to no service after a few seconds. i've used the bootneuter app and changed the settings in there but still no luck

i've tried it with my UK O2 sim card too but it is the same except the provider doesnt even appear at the top at all with that one.

please help me, i cant be the only one suffering with this!
