I've had my touch since last April, and just recently (after all of the current firmware updates) I've noticed an issue when browsing. Sometimes I will be browsing a site when safari will just close randomly, bringing me back to the main app menu. Also, when I'm browsing and listening to music in the background, the music will sometimes tend to skip slightly when pages are loading. I know this has to be a firmware or processing problem, but I can't imagine why it didn't happen before.

Also, would never have shutting the ipod down fully for a month or two have something to do with it? I usually only ever click the top button once to put it to sleep and just press the bottom menu button to wake it when I want to use it. Would this have maybe caused open apps and such to overwhelm the processor? Just throwing things out there/ Any help is appreciated.

I have the same issue too, 1st gen 8GB

Think its only happened to me after last update or one before
