1st Gen callers sound muffled....

Yesterday my gf's 1st Gen started acting funny. The callers on the other end always sound distant and muffled. Is there any way to fix this? What will the genius say at the Mac store? Should we jsut buy the refurb 3G?

Is it unlocked, if so, are you still using it on AT&T?
