the cable i currently have for 1st gen ipad (which works with older computers), when plugged into my rMBP i just got a couple months ago, causes the ipad to "go nuts" ("connected" icon blinks on and off rapidly, until itunes finally says it cannot connect to the device, while the little "connection" chime clammers over and over as well). so i was wondering if the new usb port on the rMBP (15") is just not able to communicate with such ancient technology, or if there is a specific type of cable i can buy?

i use the ipad as a book reader and nothing else, so it's not a huge deal, but thought i would ask anyway.

thanks!

I suggest you try a new/different cable. There shouldn't be any problems with the USB port and the 1st gen iPad (or any other device, for that matter).
