For those of you not sure if you should upgrade from the 1st gen iPhone to iPhone 5, I compiled a few pros and cons below:

iPhone 5 pros:
1) Faster processor (A6 vs A1 or something like that)
2) More storage (16gig default vs 4gig)
3) Faster wifi speeds (iPhone 5 is 6x faster in my tests)
4) Without jail breaking your 1st gen you can't run 95% of the apps in the app store.
5) LTE (1st gen still runs Edge which is pretty slow)

1st gen iPhone pros:
1) Apple Maps (original iphone still has Google maps which is much better)
2) No Purple halo effect on pictures
3) Battery life (even after being 5 years old my 1st gen battery lasts longer than iPhone 5 which is sad)
4) Scuff Gate (as you can see from the pictures my 1st gen is in perfect condition after 5 years. My iPhone 5 already has scuffs on the bezel after 3 weeks usage).

Conclusion: The iPhone 5 narrowly wins as you see above, I would recommend upgrading as long as price is no obstacle :apple:

37" tube tv from 1992 vs. 47" LCD TV from today... They new tv has a better looking casing, the old tv has a better remote, but they both show a video. So I say the newer 47" LCD tv is slightly better - given you have the money.

Narrowly wins?!

The only reason to use a 1st gen iPhone is if you want to be unique and "cool." Hipster perhaps.

On a tech basis we're talking about a bicycle vs. a Ferrari.

If I kept my 1st gen and didn't upgrade and stay out of contract I could have gone Prepaid and saved enough money for a new used car.
Oh My!

Hahahaa, narrowly wins? Try the bigger display, all the incredible improvements in it (I could list everything but it would take so many pages), the much faster processor and the form factor and the weight of the phone, as well as the incredibly improved camera which doesn't have an issue with 'purple halo' (the fact you call it a halo proves you've never experienced firsthand the issue you're complaining about) unless you take pictures that are illogically framed.

Oh My!

youd also have had a really slow old phone the whole time that runs next to no apps. Theres a reason we upgrade!

Can't quite tell if this is meant to be funny or just another scuff gate thread.

You didn't mention the slightly faster LTE data speeds vs edge. (/s)

Slightly faster CPU. Additional memory. Does anything run on the original iPhone?

Hard to believe the battery life is remotely comparable. iPhone 5 standby time is ages longer as is talk time. Sure if you're surfing the web maybe it's close but what you can do in that time w the faster data connection and CPU speed is not close.

All of the Pros listed for the 1st gen are very debatable criticisms of the 5. Not actual pros of the phone its self.

I mean you could have said that some people may like the smaller size/different shape...

after reading OP analysis, I now feel better keeping my iphone 2G. not much gain and save ton of money.

----------

looking at the first picture, OP's ip5 screen looks yellowish compared to the original iphone. :(

Warmer screen.

Nothing new.

I dont know how you still handle using that slow dinosaur?:D
Not much gain and you save tons of money? Yeah right:D

Thinking about it, you probably could have a useful if limited device if you jailbreak and get the battery replaced. Basic apps like weather, news headlines etc work ok on edge.

That screen looks terrible compared to the original. The display iPhone5's arent that yellow. Take that piss yellow monstrosity back, OP.

No purple halo in the picture is not a valid point for 1st gen iPhone because the quality of its camera is pathetic that you shouldn't be using it.

The purple flare happens only on certain occasion when you are directly facing lights but the camera on iPhone 5 is actually more than usable. It actually takes good pictures.

The OP is trolling. Reading from his past posts, He just came from a 4S and has had 3G.

I only know of one person within my family and friends/acquaintances, co-workers, etc. that's still on the original iPhone and they sure as heck don't roam in the macrumors forums, or any forums for that matter.

9/10 for successfully trolling lol.

Sarcasm is hard to detect on interwebs though so I docked a point.
