1st gen iphone won't turn off.. just restarts

Hi all:

I've got my hands on a friends old 1st gen iphone. Everything works fine, until I try to turn it off. It turns off, but then immediately restarts. I restored the entire system (wiped it clean), but no luck. Any ideas? Any pointers? I'd like to sell the phone, but not if it isn't working correctly. Thanks!

is it going black, then restarting, or immediately restarts. maybe the button is stuck
