1st Gen Iphones having numerous problems after update

IDK what has happened but since one of the newer updates (which I believe) there has been numerous problems with my iphone as well as my friend and gf. The main problem being that our calls would drop within two to three minutes into our calls. Is this a service issue or a phone one? I will post more problems as soon as i get them.
