iPod touch 1st Gen iPod Touch Wont Turn On and Clicks Rapidly When Plugged In

Hello everyone. I had a question about an old ipod touch I want to get working again. Its a 1st gen iPod touch that wont turn on and and makes rapid clicking sounds when plugged in. I got it to turn on one time a while back, but after a while it stopped turning on. I have tried the reset methods including the 5 Rs described on several websites. I think the issue is either with the battery or storage. If there were no clicks when plugged in, I would assume it was the battery, but now I'm not so sure. Anyone have any idea on what I need to do to fix it? Thanks a lot
