I have a 1st gen Ipod touch. all of a sudden it stopped working. it will not power on and is not recognized by my laptop. i have noticed if i leave it plugged in the bottom get very warm. any thoughts as to what is wrong and any way to fix it?

What is the history of the device? Well taken care of? Has it come in any contact w/ water? Have you used any third party chargers to charge the device?

I was only teasing, as you saw!

there has been the occuasional drop but nothing major. no water damage.
i have not tried any 3rd party chargers only computer and wall charger.
will give it a shot.

What does the charger port do? since it happened all of a sudden could that be the problem? i saw where companies will replace that.

The charger port on a iTouch 1st generation is a part of the Logic Board(basically the main circuit board inside of the device). You would have to replace the entire Logic Board to get another working one, if that is the cause of your problem.
