1st Gen Mac Pro Graphics Card Replacement

Hi Guys-

I have a friend who's first gen Mac Pro's graphics card died. (It's the 8800gt) I was looking at replacements for him and wanted to check and see if this card will work: http://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-Radeon-3870-512MB-Pcie/dp/B000ZE80HQ

I read online that the 3870 is compatible, but I just wanted to double check.

No. That card is a PC card, and you need a Mac-compatible one. Right now your choices are flashing a 3870 (don't know if anyone's done that), a 4870, or a 4890, or buying a 4870 directly from Apple (it does work, it just isn't supported by Apple).

You will have to get the "Mac & PC" version of the card. That's the one that will work in the Mac Pro.
