A friend gave me a 1st Gen MacBook Pro to repair. When I got it it would not power up or charge the battery. The light on the MagSafe connector never lit up.
My first thought was to replace the left I/O board. So I pick one up from ebay and replaced it. Now, it powers up and charges the battery. However, the computer doesn't see the internal hard drive. I have managed to boot up from the Snow Leopard install disc and it boots up when I put my MacBook in Target Disk Mode and connected via FireWire.
When I boot up with it connected to my MacBook, I launched System Profiler and there's no hard drive in the SATA section, but the controller is there. Disk Utility doesn't see any hard drive either.
When I pulled the internal hard drive out it works fine when it's in hard drive dock connected to my Mac Pro.
The hard drive ribbon cable has been replaced and that didn't help. What can possibly be wrong?
Thanks.
