Hi all,

I am looking for some advice on how to set up the two devices in my house, one as a bridge to extend range on my property because cable into the house is in a less than ideal location.

I have the 1st gen TC (no simultaneous dual-band I think). I have a new Airport Express with simultaneous dual-band capability. I have 11 OSX and iOS devices working off the network at home + ATV (I don't know if this is valuable data for the below).

Current setup is as follows:

Cable-->Modem-->TC-->all iOS and OSX devices operate wirelessly

Two possible setups with new Airport Express:

Option A: Cable-->Modem-->TC-->Bridged AExpress-->all iOS and OSX devices operate wirelessly

Option B: Cable-->Modem-->Airport Express-->Bridged TC-->all iOS and OSX devices operate wirelessly

My first question is "if the AirPortExpress is attached as the first in the chain, will it improve performance by being able to handle wireless connections in both bands and then the TC bridged to one or the other?"

My second question is "will the time machine backups work on the TC if it is bridged?"

My third question is "are there any settings I can use to increase performance of the two together?"

As an aside, I bought the AEX to use as a wireless router in a foreign hotel without wifi so that I can attach an iPhone to the wired network in the room. It works fantastically, and thought I would pass that on. I plan on inserting into the home network when I return.

I did some rudimentary searching for this, but could not find anything. Apologies in advance if this is covered elsewhere. Decided against "hijacking" similar threads....thanks in advance for any help
