Hi Guys,

I have inherited a US iPhone 1st Gen from a US colleague who now has a brand spanking new 3GS.

The phone was used under contract with ATandT as normal. I do not have the ATandT SIM, the guy who gave it to me is using that with his new phone.

I now have the phone in my possession and would like to unlock it to swap it out with my Vodafone SIM and use my current unlimited data plan, and get rid of my Blackberry Storm. :)

I have a couple of questions...

1. Should I connect the phone to my iTunes to back it up etc? Or is it a good idea to leave that alone until I have unlocked it?

2. Should I put my Vodafone SIM in before I unlock it? All the instructions I have seen seem to omit that detail.

3. Which unlock / jailbreak system shoudl I use? There are a few and it is a bit confusing which is best. I have an iMac as well as a PC so Mac based software is probably best for me.

4. When do I put the SIM in and do I need to tell Vodafone of the phone change (IMEI no. for eg).

Presumably one of you good people has done exactly what I want to do so I was hoping for a few pointers.

Many thanks.
