I am trying to find out if the original G5 iMacs all use the same motherboards excepting CPU speeds of course.
I found one indication that a 17" 1.8Ghz G5 Motherboard is the same as a 20" 1.8Ghz G5 Motherboard. However, every other website I visit lists the 20" G5 Motherboard and 17" G5 Motherboard as different part numbers.
I am curious since it is easier to find a good priced 17" G5 1.8Ghz motherboard for a reasonable price from a reputable reseller.
Different part numbers do not necessarily mean they will not work together. For example each generation Macbook Pro has a different part number for their built-in keyboards even though the same keyboard will work for several different generations.
Edit: When comparing pics the seems the same for parts placement. Except the direction the RAM slots face and the heatsink size.
