Well I haven't seen any pictures of this nature on the internet, so I decided to post some unboxing pics of one of my most valuable possesions :D

Enjoy!

Nice! Where'd you manage to find an unopened 1st gen iPod? I seem to remember a while ago you posting something about a 1st gen iPod, but my mind's a bit fuzzy on it.

Just look at all that stuff Apple used to give you with an iPod!
Yeah. It seems that Apple decided we do not need a charger, just so they could make the box smaller. To be honest though, it doesn't bother me too much.

No kidding! I love the fact that my 3rd Gen came with a case, dock, and charger...the retail cost of those items was almost as high as the price difference between the low and mid-range models available at the time (15 and 20gb)
I'll take a stab and say that iPhone #2 doesnt' come with a dock.

To be able to get a charger and a dock with a new iPod would be great.

Thanks for the pics, too! Kind of cool to see all of that in a weird, geeky kind of way.

I am surprised the current iPhones DO come with a dock. I am sure Apple wil take it out to get to that bottom dollar they cherish so much.

In that foil package that the headphones were in, was there a set of pads to use with them as well?

My old iPod Photo came with some that I never used. I dug them out several months ago and put them on my iPhone headset. There were two sets of those little foam pads.

Thanks. I've had if for a while now and I guess I just got lucky obtaining it!

The headphones are still in the foil package and everything is still sealed. It will stay that way as long as it is in my hands!

...and yes, they are pads that you see in the package. However these pads are gray in color unlike the black pads that come with the later iPods.

Thanks for the comments.

I've kept all of the packaging from my 1g in mint condition.. non-techs all think I'm crazy, but Im pretty convinced this will be a museum piece some day :D

thank you. :) Maybe I should've gotten that instead of my touch, eh? :p
hahah...I wouldn't go that far unless you already had an iPod to use.

I agree. It's already a museum piece and I'm almost positive it's in the smithsonian. These 1st gens will be worth a mighty dollar in the upcoming years...I'm almost certain.

Very cool. But has the box retained its new iPod smell over the years?
The smell isn't strong, but it's still slightly there!

Oh, I do. I have a 5G 30GB iPod, which isn't enough space for me x_x. I was just kidding, anyways. It'd be cool to have, but I don't have money for collection :p

Yeah, it's amazing how the boxes retain the smell..My Macbook box still smells very very strongly of the original smell after six months. 7 years or so is quite the time to retain :p

I had a first generation iPod. I don't see any difference in terms of sound quality. I didn't sell or throw mine when I decided to retire it. I actually...er...broke it intentionally. LOL. I pried it open with a screw driver to check out the innards and the process broke something. By then, I had stopped using that iPod for a LONG time.

I recently got a first generation iPod too. Mine wasn't in a box, and it's got scratches all over it, but it's still awesome!

Cool pictures!

Call me crazy, but I'd swear that those headphones are better sounding then the latter (3rd gen and on) headphones that came with the iPod.

I still have a set of early iPod earbuds that came with my 10GB second gen. Compared them with the new headset that was included with my iPod Touch and the older earbuds do sound better. Compared side by side, the actual earbuds on the older set were larger and had an overall deeper driver which was a bit less comfortable for long term use, with the overall design in mind.

I don't dare tear them apart as I can't find early earbuds to compare coils and magnets, but I found a real surprise was the stereo headset that came with my BlackBerry Bold 9000 series (the pack-ins included with the 9700 were crap) aced them both in sound quality.
