Hey i have a 1st generation 2GB Nano with problems. I had it connected to a Monster FM tansmitter in my truck and it started playing like 3 seconds of a song, then skipping to the next one. So i reset it and then all i got was a folder with a ! and i tried connecting it to my computer to restore. ( I am running XP, and am not computer savvy enough to use a MAC.) anyway i called apple and they said that because i do not have a protection plan they cannot help. What can i do? Someone told me that the battery may be bad, is this worth a try? If so can i put a new one in, if not who can i trust? ANy help woud be greatly appreciated!

Did you walk through http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ ? Can the iPod be put into "Disk Mode" (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651)?

ummmmm still broke i think... no wait i think it's ok!

I think that it worked, huh... this thing has been sitting in my desk for 6months because i didn't know how to fix it. I ended up buying a 30gig video. Well now i have 2, thanks micvog for the help.
