1st iphone sync to new macbook

I have managed to transfer all of my music video and apps from my external hard drive onto my new macbook (replacement for my ibook). Is there any particular procedure I need to follow so as to ensure I do not lose any data.

Obviously my new macbook will be where I am syncing from now on.

As an aside will the sync transfer my bookmarks into safari?
