hello. my dad has a surveillance system in one of his stores and he needs an external hard drive that will be able to have great performance (since the system is on 24/7) and a good price (under 120 shipped). i was wondering what drive we should buy. we dont need firewire or eSATA just a good, reliable usb hard drive. i was looking at western digital drives and they seem to be pretty good but im not sure. thanks

western digital or lacey for reliability i would say

I can't really recommend much in that price range for that sort of operation. Standard consumer-grade hard drives are not designed for 24/7 operation. Drives that are, such as Western Digitals's RE series, are slightly out of your budget for your desired capacity.

You can find an enclosure to put it in for little money. USB enclosures are dirt cheap.

Edit: Make sure that the enclosure has adequate cooling for 24/7 operation as well.

Good idea. I am going to see what we can do. I never thought I'd get such useful info from bill gates. Thanks
