hi, i upgraded my uMBP 5,3 HDD to
WD 640GB 5400 rpm
from the stock 320GB
however the performance is not satisfying for me
it doesnt make noises or click , and it runs cool, battery life also quite good.
the only problem is that my system runs noticably slower compared to the stock HDD.

i did freash install SNow leopard twice using the free upgrade dvd that come with my machine, but still the performance is not as good as i would have imagine.

anyway im thinking to upgrade my HDD to 1TB
and i found on the net that there is 2 brand for it.

toshiba with 5400 rpm and WD with 5200 rpm

can anyone give me reccomendation on which drive is bettter ?
i supposed looking at the spec , the toshiba should be faster because of the faster rpm speed ?

I am using a 5400 Toshiba 1TB and it is running beautifully.

When I can though, I might change to a 750GB 7200RPM (if available).

I'd advise against the Western Digital drive. I have one in my 13" MBP, and it "clicks" (unloads the heads) every ~15 seconds unless you disable the drive's power management feature via a command line utility at each boot/wake from sleep.
