1TB vs 512GB

Did I make a mistake not ordering the larger disk space? I have a larger photo and movie database than I thought and now regret not getting the higher SSD. Is it better to keep the 512GB and use external or swap for the 1TB?

It depends on your workflow. I don't use iTunes or iPhotos for movies and databases so I don't have a problem with these media. However, I do have a large (and growing) collection of books with which I use iBooks to organize. iBooks database cannot be relocated so as I'm running out of space, I'm forced to relocate my iTunes libraries and device backups to an external hard drive.

My problem with this setup is that I cannot set my iTunes to automatically backup my devices when I connect them, as every time I restart my computer, the iTunes opens before my external hard drive mounts. iTunes tries to find libraries that do not exist then pops up a warning to search for the libraries.

Basically, if you think it's going to be too much of a hassle to carry an external hard drive, then you should definitely get a larger internal SSD.

I guess with media it’s on Apple servers and they can pull certain versions any time They want too. In fact I did lose 1 film as I didn’t have it backed up.
