I was just at the Apple store to check out the new Touches/Nanos and whilst playing with the Touch i noticed it was running 2.1.1 firmware. Curiously i then stopped at John Lewis on my way home and their touches were running 2.1

PS the build numbers for both firmwares were different (obviously). Could Apple be planning to launch 2.1.1 shortly after maybe next week?. Also i noticed that the touch running 2.1.1 had the contacts lag issue and seemed jerky but that could simply be due to it having been manhandled all day. The touch running the 2.1 however...smooth...no lags

By the way the new touches: ridiculously thin...same goes for the nano

I'm sure it was 2.0.1

wow 2.1.1?! really?! very interesting and strange... i was tempted to go by the Apple store today, now I'll definitely go check it out.

Actually is guaranteed......

since apple is selling more things to more people they have found that no-ones code is bug free and the more people there is the more bugs will be found publicly.

I can see there being a LOT more updates in the 2.x run than there ever was in the 1.x software. There are simply more things to go wrong now that the platform has been opened up to developers. Security fixes a-plenty.

Is it remotely possible for Apple to just skip 2.1 and release 2.1.1 tomorrow? after all its already shipping

Just found this link to 2.1.1 when looking for signs of early release on Apple.....

DO NOT INSTALL, i know nothing other than this is the same build as highlighted on iphone atlas site....l

Code:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/bundles/061-5494.20080909.8i9o0/iPod2,1_2.1.1_5F138_Restore.ipsw

Damn, nice find.

It could be that 2.1.1 just has support for Nike+, although I don't think that fits with Apple's usual iPhone/Touch numbering system.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (16GB, 2.0.2 JB'd): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

This is OT, but I thought is was pretty funny to find Charles Tucker III and "the phazer" posting in the same thread. :D
