important question. does it modify the baseband? if yes, too risky

if no, absolutly no risk :D

Modifying the baseband is not risky, modifying the bootloader of the baseband is.

Unless you also unlock, jailbreaking does not modify either of these.

Jailbreak can't touch the baseband, and hence the reason why Dev Team is advocating not to upgrade until they crack the firmware. I wonder how many 3G iphones still has the original 2.0 baseband, which according to Dev Team is more likely to be unlocked.

Ps. I still don't see the appeal of jailbreak. I have a first gen that is jailbroken and its offering doesn't entice me to do the same for my 3G.

I just like winterboard... that was the only reason. my dock looks like the original ipod touch dock. Other than that. I agree. I dont see any other apps appealing enough to jailbreak.

whoa i must be getting out of touch with my pod hacking, howd i mix that up?

Cycorder / Netshare / Winterboard are more then enough reasons to jailbreak in my book.

I have not been able to find the program "netshare" through Cydia, or Installer. Where did you find it?

He's referring to the crack version, which is probably illegal, plus a risk with AT&T's terms. However, there's a new similar app that was released called iPhoneModem, which may be interesting and aim to work the same as NetShare.

Wow, just tested iPhoneModem on my first gen phone...I must say, it is very impressive! Nothing to setup and it works straight out of box! However, Mac only and I guess they are developing Windows as well.

oh yeah baby
