2.1 to 2.0.2, how?

I've been trying to get my iPhone 3G back to 2.0.2 for a couple weeks now with no luck because my favorite app stopped working properly after 2.1. Last thing I tried was the instructions here but I got the 1013 (or something like that) error and so the iPhone went into plug-me-into-iTunes-mode forcing me to go back to 2.1. Any help would be much appreciated.
