iPod touch 2.2 (5G77a) software...1G or 2G?

Ok so I'm brand new to Apple electronics and obviously to the Touch. I just received it for Christmas. Its a 16GB touch which I upgraded when I plugged it in my laptop and opened iTunes. I read about jailbreaking and am very interested in doing it but I'm currently confused on weather my Touch is a 1st Gen. or 2nd Gen. Can someone clear this all up for me?

Most likely a 2nd Gen. If it has volume buttons on the side and a shiny stainless bezel it's a 2nd Gen. They stopped selling the 1st Gen in September.

that solves all my problems. is there a way to downgrade the firmware on the 2G to make it jailbreakable?

The 2nd gen is not jailbreakable because of hardware issues, so even if there were a way to downgrade the firmware (which there isn't), it would still be unjailbreakable.

Damn alright. I guess when Dev Team does figure it out we will know hopefully. I was really hoping it was possible...guess not.=(
