iPod touch 2.2 and 2.21 Firmware Problems-Help!

I have a 32gb Touch that worked great until I upgraded the firmware to 2.2. Upon doing so, I am only able to unlock using the slider, then the touch is "frozen". Occasionally, I can get, perhaps, one level into the settings before everything is frozen, but that is it. Beyond that, I have to use the power button to return to the unlock screen, but once I slide to unlock, I have the same result.

I have been able to revert to 2.0 and all is well; however, 2.2 or 2.21 leaves me without any functionality. I wouldn't care so much, but a lot of apps now require 2.2.

Yes, I restored it to version 2 as I mentioned and it works fine. I know the simple answer is to leave it at that, however, I would like it to be up to date.

It's just weird, I have not seen mentions of this problem elsewhere but can't imagine what would have caused such an issue.

As I said the problem is with version 2 and 2.12.

BTW, I am using a MacBook Pro when I update. I guess I could use our other MacBook Pro or the iMac and see if I have a different result. I just don't think that should be the problem; who knows.

I'm not sure, that is really strange. Give it a shot on another computer, although I don't see what that would do. If it doesn't work, I'd go to Apple about it. If they come out with any really good updates then you're going to want them.

I'll give it a try and let you know. Like I said, I've scoured the net, well kinda, and have found no reference to this. I thought it was a fluke at first, but after a couple repeated restores with the same problem ensuing, I'm surprised that no one else is having the same issue.

My wife has a jail broken touch identical to mine, but I haven't even updated hers to 2.0. I will update her touch to 2.12 as an additional test and see what happens.

New Attempt

Well, I just upgraded my wife's touch from a sub 2.0 jail broken version to the current 2.12 legit version on her MacBook Pro and there are no problems.

I then restored my touch to a sub 2.0 version on my wife's MacBook Pro and all was well. I then upgraded to 2.12 and other than unlocking the slide, everything freezes. Aye chi wa wa.

The only slightly difference was on my wife's mac, after the 2.12 update, the touch's screen automaticly shifts between the slider screen with the battery and the slider screen with the globe and iTunes displayed a message about not being able to connect to the "iPhone". After rebooting the touch, this message did not repeat.

Again, anyone with any thoughts on this, please dive in because I am now wondering if there is something screwy with the touch itself and not the updated software.

Another Observation

If upon unlocking with the slider, I press anything quickly enough, very quickly, I can drill down into an app as long as I'm pressing a button. The moment I stop everything is frozen and you have to press the sleep button to be able to do anything.

Ok, hundreds of people, and no one is having the same problem? I'm starting to get a complex. Can anyone sugest a possible lead to pursue; or, should I just post a new thread with porn in the title, so that I'll get tons of response.

The only suggestion I recommend, it to go the Apple store, and get help with Genius. It might be a hardware issue, not software issue. The hardware is somehow causing the iPod touch to malfunction with the latest software.

In worse case senerio, you might need to get your iPod touch replaced.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will do that. My wife has an identical iPod and there are no issues with her unit. I'ts just strange that I can return it to a previous firmware and it's smooth as glass. But since I seem to be the only one on the iPlanet with the issues, it could well be a problem with the unit.

I sincerely appreciate your input and will send feedback when I resolve the problem.

Update

Well, I took my touch back to the Mac store and upon repeating the problems that I experienced, they offered no explanation, but instead provided me with a new 32gb replacement on the spot.

I would have liked more info, but you can't argue with the outcome.
