2.2 ghz MBP motion problems

I am trying to finish up a movie I'm making with final cut studio and my computer is starting to be funny. Ill be trying different text effects in motion and after a couple minutes it will start to freeze up and become extremely slow and unusable, sometimes it will freeze os x not just motion. It works fine in final cut pro although I don't use many effects in that program. I have used motion before and it has worked fine. Could this be related to the issues with the 8600 graphics cards? The computer is a 2.2ghz 15 mbp

It could be freezing up due to heat!
How are your system temperatures?
Are the fans on, can you hear them??
